What is the Tobacco-Free Healthy Schools Program?

This is a FREE program offered to schools throughout New York State. The program provides assistance and resources to your school, to work towards updating and implementing a 100% tobacco-free school policy. There are currently 13 school districts in Fulton & Montgomery counties that are participating in the Tobacco-Free Healthy Schools program.

Why should your school be involved?

• All assistance and resources provided to your school are FREE!
• Almost 90% of tobacco users begin using tobacco before the age of 19. Schools are in a powerful position to prevent youth from smoking and to help those who already use tobacco to quit. Schools play a key role in creating attitude and behavioral change among students, their family and the community. A tobacco-free environment that establishes nonuse of tobacco as a norm can contribute significantly to preventing initial use of tobacco or interrupting habituated use among youth.
