Most tobacco users begin using tobacco before the age of 19. Schools are in a powerful position to prevent youth from smoking and to help those who already use tobacco to quit. They play a key role in creating attitude and behavioral change among students, their family, and the community. An environment that establishes nonuse of tobacco as a norm can contribute significantly to preventing initial use or interrupting habituated use among youth.
